September 4 = Kayleigh & Mommy Day

Yesterday was a bit overwhelming between figuring out the bus situation- Liam's bus comes right to our door and I have the phone number of his driver and it's the same driver as last year so she called me and told me what time she'd be coming and it was easy.  Malia's situation was a bit different.  Because of Liam riding the special education bus I didn't know the normal process- they post all the bus routes online and you find which one has a stop close to your stop.  The only information you're given is when the first stop is and you just have to guess when the bus will get there.  So since Liam's comes up 6:50, I just headed to Malia's bus stop right after- better to be 30 minutes early to be 2 minutes late.  Well as I put her on the bus, the bus driver asks if I have my yellow card.  Liam had a yellow card last year- the number on your card has to match his for them to let him off the bus but I didn't get one in the mail for Malia.  Wellllllll they gave them out at the open house that I did not attend.  I had a broken ankle, three kids and no stroller and they were saying you'd have to park about half a mile from the school so I wasn't about that life.  So after I got Malia on the bus I had a MOPS playdate to go to and then went straight to the school to get my card... and it really seemed as soon as I got home I had to watch for the bus- because again, I didn't know when Malia's was coming.  So today we had a bit more time so we headed to Chickfila to have breakfast together :) I'm looking forward to Miss Kayleigh getting some individual attention.  I think she might be too.

July 22 = Mount Vernon Day

Today started as every Saturday should- with Chickfila breakfast- as I was getting Malia ready and Kayleigh's stuff packed for our morning outing, Zachary got this picture:

Also... here's a fun guessing game- who's this?

Answer:

Our last chickfila breakfast for a while...

While we were at breakfast, Zachary told me I should go to Mount Vernon by myself.  I've been wanting to go since... well, since Zachary and I took a DC trip for our second wedding anniversary.  It was on the list of things to do but we decided to go see Matthew, who happened to be in Quantico that weekend, instead.  It was a good trade but Mount Vernon stayed on my list of things I wanted to do at some point.  I thought for sure we'd make it during our stay in Annapolis but with just days left, it didn't look like it was going to happen but my sweet husband stepped in.  I decided to take Miss Malia with me to keep me company :)

She's got her ticket in her hand- others had dropped their tickets and it was her mission to pick them up and collect as many as possible.

We got to the line to go tour the mansion early- shocking- so we walked around the gardens.  Malia loves flowers so much so she was in heaven!

As you can probably tell from the pictures, it was kind of hot.  We sat to rest for a little while before getting in the line- Malia approved.

You aren't allowed to take pictures in the mansion but when we came out, this was our view.  The camera doesn't do it justice but just looking at the picture reminds me of how beautiful it was.

Malia was nearing her patience limit but I pushed her to walk to the tomb anyway as it was on the way to the shuttle that would take us back near our car.  Malia was not very cooperative so I snapped this picture really quickly and we walked toward the shuttle.

This is what being at her patience limit looks like:

She was happy to get on the bus though- here's some of her tickets she picked up along the way.

I had to stop by the gift shop- I wanted to find something for Zachary- I found some wine for us to share.  Malia loved these puppies and wanted three of them "because they're friends."

This was exactly two months ago so I'm so glad I took this screenshot of funny things that happened on our trip.  I'm not sure what "I'm back- it's my turn not yours" is but I do remember us being on the shuttle and Malia was climbing all over me and I said, "Girl, you're killing me" and she said "I'm not killing you, I'm just sitting."  She also said, "Get off the bus, I don't like you."  I started to pretend cry and she said "I sorry mommy, I love you."  So that was nice... and then on the way home she started singing "I like to eat, eat, eat chicken and fries" to the tune of apples and bananas.

This was the longest I had been away from Kayleigh since we got home from the hospital-  I missed her so!

I missed these two sillies as well:

March 12 = Second Spring Break Day

Here's a McKenzie update:

And more pictures from our week on our own:

We went to the Breakfast Shoppe... I love the Breakfast Shoppe so much but it's always so crowded and we have to wait so it's not ideal for Liam.  So Malia and I went and there was a 45 minute wait so we went across the street to AC Moore and I got her some Minnie Mouse puzzles and we came back just in time for breakfast.  It was so yummy and Malia had so much fun coloring and doing puzzles!

Also, I laughed out loud when I saw this:

June 8 = Kinder Farm Park Day

Zachary hasn't been working a ton since the mids have left the Naval Academy- we've loved having him home more!  In this picture, we were not moving- promise.

We had a meeting with Liam's Child Find specialists today.  We got a report on his "performance age level/age range" for a variety of areas.  While the numbers were kind of scary, the specialists reassured us that he knows a lot more than he shows us so the numbers aren't really accurate.  So for instance, his cognitive age equivalent is 2.7 even though he's 3 years and 8 months old.  His communication age equivalent is 2.1, his social/emotional is 1.8, his adaptive (having to do with self-help like dressing, eating, etc.) is 2.5, his fine motor is 2.2 and his gross motor is 2.2.  So this explains a lot!  It explains why he gets so frustrated because he is super smart but isn't able to express everything he knows.  It also means that since he is more than 25% behind, he gets to continue services.  He will have different specialists during the summer and depending on how he's doing at the beginning of the school year, they may place him in a preschool environment with other kids for 2-5 days a week to improve these scores- we'll see!

This is what Malia was doing while we were going through all the information:

When we got home, we took naps and then Malia and I headed out to meet Amy, Evie, Annie and Ashley for a playdate at Kinder Farm Park.  Zachary sent me this picture of Liam- this is closest we're going to get to him using the potty for a while I'm afraid.

I had so much fun getting to spend one-on-one time with Miss Malia.  She loved the animals- she talked to this chicken:

She actually put her hand through the fence and touched these pigs:

Saw this on facebook and loved it:

So we took Liam's door knob off and put it back on with the lock on the outside because nothing else is working.  I forgot to lock it after bringing him a snack so this is what we found when we came upstairs to go to bed:

April 28 = Breakfast Shoppe Day

We took Liam to the CDC today and I was heading to chickfila to get some lunch for me and Malia but on my way I thought I might try something different so instead, we headed to The Breakfast Shoppe.  I got my bacon, sausage, ham and cheddar omelet- so so good- and I shared with Malia- she wasn't super thrilled to be there but she did a pretty good job.  It was definitely nap time when we got home though.
