We had lots of football jerseys on today- except for Malia- she wore her dress all day. She loves this dress.

September 17 = Perfect Sunday
So another awesome part of our day yesterday was we picked out a new couch. We had a sectional a few years ago and I loved it. Jeannie ruined it so we got a new couch and now... I don't like it anymore and I miss my sectional so we got another sectional and I have to say I like this one better than the original. The whole family is such a fan.

Daddy's watching football so we're together in our opposition but too tired to do anything about it:

September 11= Football Day
Oh Malia. Zachary went to the Nationals' baseball game today with a bunch of midshipmen. He was on the task force so he was in charger of making sure everyone was safe and didn't do anything stupid. So things happen when there's one adult and two children. Here's one of them:
She went upstairs by herself, got in her room, somehow got the wipes off her dresser and picked one out- brought it downstairs and asked me to help her get the marks off her leg. How smart is she?? She also made this cushion fort:
Here's another one of those things that happens when the number of children is greater than the number of adults, artwork from Liam:
Zachary wasn't home and today was the first Sunday of football. I was so disappointed because I had been looking forward to watching with him. But I also saw this and sent it to him in case he wasn't aware:
He did make it home for the night game and when he saw this (Patriots' player, Danny Amendola, helping hold the flag during the national anthem), he had a new favorite player.

January 24 = Football Day
Today was a big day in the NFL- the conference championships! The Patriots played the Broncos and the Cardinals played the Panthers. I was torn in the Patriots/Broncos game. I thought it would be hilarious watching Roger Goodell having to congratulate Tom Brady after all the drama between them at the end of last season but at the same time... this could be Peyton's last season so you've gotta pull for him. So I decided either way I'd be happy. In the other game I was definitely pulling for the Cardinals. I'm not a Cam Newton fan but I am a Bruce Arians fan- he's hilarious- and also... I wanted the Packers' loss to not be in vain. However... the Panthers won. Oh well- we had good food to eat and Liam loves saying "football time," and "football score" so it was a good time for all.
Also, Malia found this:

It's an eye mask that I use sometimes if I have a bad headache... but Malia decided to use it as a headband... she's got her own style.

January 12 = Prechool Day Two
My world is revolving around preschool at home right now so the titles of these blog posts may reflect that for a while...
Here are Liam and Malia playing with their sensory bin. I threw some small red things in the bottom of this container and filled it with red rice and encouraged them to find the paperclips, crayons, and legos at the bottom. They had lots of fun running the rice through their fingers and making a little bit of a mess.

This "homeschooling preschool" idea was mainly to benefit Liam but I think Malia may benefit a little bit too. She's been talking so much- she says mama, dada, all done, bosh (which means paci), thirsty, uh-oh, yes, no, juice... there's probably more but that's all I can come up with at the moment.
Also, I have a funny story to share about Liam. There's a pretty good consensus that Liam looks like me rather than Zachary but one thing he definitely inherited from his father is his mischievousness. Last night, he woke up pretty late- around 11 and was pretty mad. We went upstairs to make sure he was okay and he kept telling us he was hungry. So we brought him downstairs for a snack. As he was walking down the stairs he said "Ickey Ouse, Ickey Ouse" and we told him we would not be watching Mickey Mouse. There's only so much Disney and Sprout TV a mom can take in one day. So he immediately requested football. He's done this several times- he knows that request is more likely to be honored. He also asked for spaghetti by name- well his name for it: "ettie."

January 3 = Fantasy Football Day
Tonight, the Packers play the Vikings and this is the final game of Zachary's fantasy football championship games in both leagues- he plays in the league we have with his dad and brother and my dad and brother. He's playing against his brother in our league. But he also plays in a league with his fellow LEAD cohort members and he's in the running to win that league as well- they're a bit more competitive than the family league.
Also since my favorite team, the Packers, are playing I thought it'd be fun to make some yummy snacks. We made buffalo wings and a frozen pizza- Zachary had some ginger ale with a kick mixed in.
Spoiler alert- the Packers lost but Zachary is the champion of both fantasy football leagues!

December 12 = Gramps Day!
Gramps got in last night- both kids were still awake to his delight. Here Liam is playing with Gramps' phone. He's spoiled!
We had a pretty low key day- Zachary had duty yesterday so we were expecting him to get home this morning around 8 or so but he didn't get home until after 9:30 because the person taking his spot overslept. So we tried to let Zachary get some rest- he didn't go to bed until 1:00am and then had to wake up before 4:00am to get the mids on the bus for the Army v. Navy game (which Navy won!). So we went grocery shopping and went for a walk to give him quiet in the house. Daisy didn't cooperate though so he didn't get a lot of sleep- oops. But we watched that game and also the Carolina game- which didn't end in our favor. But it was a fun day- any day that the kids get to hang out with their Gramps is a good day for them!

November 29 = Nap Day
So Sundays in this house consist of watching football and Zachary taking couch naps. I am incapable of taking couch naps. I must be in my bed, lights off, fan on. But Zachary, out of necessity from going to the Citadel and then being on a ship for 7 months straight, has a talent of being able to sleep anywhere under nearly all conditions- including having a dog snuggled up around his neck.

October 4 = Midshipmen Dinner #2
I slept in this morning- woohoo! While I was down, Zachary did some rearranging and moved the bed Liam never uses down from his room to the playroom- Malia was a fan.
But then it was time for work! We had lots of midshipmen coming over again and lasagna was on the menu tonight. We made five lasagnas and it was a pretty good amount for some hungry "kids." I don't feel quite qualified to call them kids but whatever.
Again, Malia worked her way into getting some attention. She brought the Mickey Mouse tin that holds all the little characters Liam got in his birthday present from Uncle Matt & Grace and the guys helped her open it and encouraged her as she took them all out and put them all back in and closed it for her and repeated this several times until she was bored of it and found something else to do. Sass.

December 13 = Go Navy, Beat Army Day
The Army vs. Navy football game is one of the biggest sporting events of the year. Zachary would like to go one year but right now with these two little ones, it's not really practical. However, that didn't stop us from watching and cheering on the Navy from home!
Our cheering wasn't in vain- We Won!

November 15 = Break out the Winter Clothes Day
Goodness gracious it's gotten cold! We bought season tickets to US Navy football games. Not our wisest decision. We went to one quarter of the first game and haven't been back. Now, the only other game we are able to go to happens to fall on the coldest day I can ever remember. That may be a bit of an exaggeration but it is really, really cold. One of Zachary's classmates has a three year old and they held on to all her baby clothes and are now donating them. They sent them our way to go through before they took them to a women's shelter and we found lots of awesome winter clothes for Malia so we took advantage of that and bundled both the babies up and headed to the game. We lasted for a quarter.

September 20 = Navy Football Day
We got season tickets for USNA Football this year. I'm not feeling great about the prospect of us using all of these tickets. Today was the first home game and what we thought would be a cool, crisp, fall day turned out to be a super hot, over 80 degrees day. We stayed for all of 30 minutes trying to use Zachary's body to create shade for Malia on a hill. It was pretty awful. But the good news is- we got this picture of Liam out of it so I'll call it a success.

September 3- Football Outfit Day
Before Malia was born, I went through Liam's old clothes and picked out things I thought I could get away with putting on Malia. I knew she would be provided with plenty of clothes so it wasn't to make sure she had enough- it was for memory's sake. This is one of those outfits that I can vividly remember Liam wearing- it's awesome that Liam's and Malia's birthdays are so close- Christmas clothes that fit Liam will probably fit Malia when Christmas comes around and in this case, football clothes that Liam wore can be reused for Malia :)
